Peptide Storage & Reconstitution: A Lab Handling Guide
By the Prime Peptide Labs lab team · 10 September 2026 · 6 min read
Even ≥99% pure peptides degrade if mishandled. These are the handling practices our lab follows.
Storing lyophilised peptides
Keep sealed vials at -20°C, dry and dark. Lyophilised peptides are stable for long periods frozen; 2–8°C is fine for weeks. Let vials reach room temperature before opening to prevent condensation.
Reconstitution step by step
Wipe the stopper with alcohol. Slowly add diluent (commonly bacteriostatic water) down the vial wall. Swirl gently — never shake, which can shear or aggregate peptides. Hydrophobic sequences may need a small amount of dilute acetic acid first.
Calculating concentration
Concentration = peptide mass ÷ diluent volume. Example: 10 mg in 2 mL gives 5 mg/mL (5,000 µg/mL). Record this on the vial label with the date.
Keeping solutions stable
Store reconstituted peptides at 2–8°C and use within about 2–4 weeks. For longer storage, aliquot into single-use volumes and freeze. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, light exposure and contamination.
